A Study on the Hands Contamination Rate According to Nursing Activities

Abstract
This study is to investigate the contamination rate of hands by contact in the process of nursing activities.
For the research of this theme, the experimental respondents eon ;fisted of 45 nurses and 9 student nurses working in the injection room and 8 wards of the general hospital P-city, simultaneously this project was conducted in the period of Dec. 21, 1987 to Dec. 30, 1987, adding Mar. 7, 1988.
It is desirable to scrutinize the number of infected germs in the sample which is obtained from subject¢¥s left and right hand in pre nursing activities and post-nursing activities.
The reliable method to make sample available for the investigation of hand contamination rate is that before nursing activities, first the left and the right hand should be cleaned up and be measured the contamination rate by cultivating in 216 media for isolation of microorganism, and next. after nursing activities, the contamination rate of the left and the right hand be measured by cultivating in 216 media for isolation of microorganism.
The result of the above investigation is follow;
1. The contamination rate of pre-nursing activities was 33.8 %, and the contamination rate of post-nursing activities was 84.3 %. There was statistically significance relationship between pre-nursing activities and postnursing activities (x2 111.639, P<0.01).
2. The isolated rate of pre-nursing activities was 35.6% and the isolated rate of postnursing activities 90.3 %.
There was statistically significance relationship between pre and post nursing activities (x2 = 135.89, P<0.01).
Gram(-) bacilli was the richest of the pre and post nursing activities. 3. At before nursing activities;
The isolated rate of Left hand was 40.8 % and the isolated rate of right hand 30.6 %.
So left hand contamination rate was more higher, but there was no significance between left and right hand contamination rate.
4. At after nursing activities; The isolated rate of left¢¥ hand was 88.0 % and the isolated rate of right hand 92.6 %. So right hand contamination was more higher, but there was no significance between left and right hand contamination rate.
5. The isolated rate of left hand ; It was 40.8 % before nursing activities and 88.0 % after nursing activities as the result, the isolated rate of left hand was increased approximately 2.2 times and there was a significance between before and after nursing activities (x2 = 5045,P<0.01).
6. The isolated rate of right hand ; It was 30.6 % before nursing activities and 92.6 % after nursing activities as the result, the isolated rate of right hand was increased approximately 3.0 times and there was a significance between before and after nursing activities (x2 = 85.23, P<0.01).
7. The contamination rate of pre and post nursing activities according to nursing activities; The increased rate of contamination in the endotracheal suction was highest by 5.3 times and the increased rate of contamination in the charting act was lowest by 1.9 times. There was significance.
8. Left and right hand contamination rate according to nursing activities;
Left hand; The increased rate of contamination in the endotracheal suction was highest by 4.5 times, the increased rate of contamination in the injection was lowest by 1.5 times.
Right hand; The increased rate of contaminator ¢¥in the endotracheal suction was highest by 7.0 times, in the newborn baby artificial feeding, was lowest by 2.0 times.
9. The contamination rate of pre and post nursing activities according to each ward The increased rate of contamination in the injection room was highest by 10.0 times and in the ped-ward and the Ob-Gy ward were lowest by 1.9 times. There was significance at 6 parts except Icu and ped-ward.
